LUJ Premium Cigars is closing out 2015 with a limited edition release, as the company has shipped its latest cigar, called Oyin, to retailers in recent weeks.

Breaking from its usual shroud of secrecy, LUJ has decided to disclose some specifics about the blend of this cigar. Oyin, which is named for company founder Luj Oluyeba’s daughter and means honey in the Yoruba language of southwestern and north central Nigeria, uses a Dominican wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. The blend is said to have a hint of raw honey that stands out amongst its other notes. While the blend is being disclosed a bit more than normal, the company still isn’t disclosing the factory making the cigar, other than to say it is Tamboril, Dominican Republic, with a spokesperson telling halfwheel that they want the cigars to speak for themselves, not based on the reputation of the factory.

The Luj Oyin LE 2015 measures 5 1/2 x 50 and comes with an MSRP of $12 per stick, with each box containing 20 cigars. The company plans on releasing another installment in 2016, though they haven’t decided what that will be yet, saying it could mean the same blend in a new vitola or a tweaked version of the 2015 blend.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
