In March, Luciano Cigars announced that it was moving production of its Fiat Lux line from its factory in Nicaragua to Plasencia’s Tabacos de Oriente factory in Danlí, Honduras. Now, those Plasencia-made cigars are beginning to ship to retailers.

Fiat Lux debuted at the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show as part of the ACE Prime portfolio, a predecessor to Luciano Cigars, which debuted in September 2022. Its blend uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan fillers from the Jalapa, Ometepe and Pueblo Nuevo regions. Luciano Meirelles said that the blend of the cigar will not be changing as part of the move.

It will also continue to be offered in four sizes:

  • Fiat Lux by Luciano Acumen (6 x 56) — $13.70 (Box of 20, $274)
  • Fiat Lux by Luciano Genius (5 1/2 x 52) — $12.20 (Box of 20, $244)
  • Fiat Lux by Luciano Intuition (5 x 50) — $11.60 (Box of 20, $232)
  • Fiat Lux by Luciano Insight (5 5/8 x 46) — $11 (Box of 20, $220)

Meirelles said that the move was made to help maximize the production capabilities of the Luciano Tabacos S.A. factory and welcomed the opportunity to work with Plasencia. As part of the announcement that Fiat Lux’s production was moving to Tabacos de Oriente, it was announced that a limited edition called Tenebrus would join the Fiat Lux line. That cigar, which began shipping in late May, uses two wrappers, the first of which is a Honduran habano Azuacualpa from Plasencia’s San Agustin farm in the Olancho region, while the other is an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf that is the same leaf found on the original Fiat Lux line. According to the company, both wrappers are fermented for more than five years and sit atop a Nicaraguan-grown binder and filler.

“We are very pleased to welcome Luciano and his family to produce some of their brands in Honduras,” said Nestor Andrés Plasencia, ceo of Plasencia Cigars, via a press release when the move was announced. “This new production is in line with our strategy to put the name of Honduras on high by manufacturing brands like Luciano’s. This production links the relationship of friendship and respect between the two families who have always been known by supporting the communities where they operate.”

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
