Les Fines Lamesthe French company known for its cigar knives and wearable cigar cutters—is adding two new finishes to the company’s MONAD and DYAD ashtray lines.

The first new finish is Raw Aluminum, which is made with tumbled aluminum that, according to the company, will oxidize and patina over time. The single-cigar MONAD model has an MSRP of $95, while the double-cigar DYAD comes in at $115.

In addition, Les Fines Lames is adding an Obsidian version, which is made of the material that is formed naturally when lava cools at a rapid pace. Each single-cigar MONAD ashtray features an MSRP of $750, while the DYAD version is priced at $850.

As with the rest of the MONAD and DYAD ashtrays, Les Fines Lames says the new additions utilize the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi—a viewpoint centered around finding beauty in imperfections—and that each piece will include “marks from the production process enhancing its character. The ashtrays are more or less the same size—5.75 inches x 5.75 x 1.3—though the single-cigar MONAD has one of its corners cut slightly, whereas the two-cigar DYAD’s footprint is in the shape of a square.

All four new versions of the ashtray are currently available for sale on the company’s website.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
