K.C. Johnson of Tatuaje is honoring the memory of his dog, Roxy, who passed away earlier this year, with a new size for the original L’Atelier and L’Atelier Maduro lines, a 3 1/2 x 50 petit robusto.

The company will be offering the Roxy in 20-count boxes, with each box containing 10 cigars of each blend. Pricing is set at $160 per box, which works out to $8 per cigar.

“Some would say that the idea of having two blends in a box was because she was phantom, it also could be because she had two different personalities,” Johnson wrote in an Instagram post announcing the cigar.

The original L’Atelier line, often referred to as LAT, uses an Ecuadorian Sancti Spiritus wrapper over Nicaraguan binders and fillers, while the L’Atelier Maduro uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan binders and fillers.

The company has not yet announced when the cigars will ship and if this is a limited edition or will be an ongoing production size.

Update (July 4, 2023) — Pete Johnson told halfwheel he expects the cigars to ship in August.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
