Lagarto Cigars, a new brand from ZR Cigars in La Romana, Dominican Republic, will make its debut next month at the 2025 Total Product Expo in Las Vegas, Nev.

The new brand is debuting with the Lagarto Cigars Colección Edición Limitada, a 16-cigar sampler that contains one of each of the brand’s four blends in four different sizes. As for those four blends, the binder and filler are not being disclosed, only the wrapper and corresponding foot ribbon:

  • The Lagarto Connecticut uses an Ecuadorian-grown, Connecticut-seed wrapper and wears a green ribbon;
  • The Lagarto Cameroon uses an Ecuadorian-grown Cameroon wrapper and wears a yellow ribbon;
  • The Lagarto Habano’s wrapper also comes from Ecuador, and it wears a red ribbon
  • The Lagarto Maduro wears a Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper and is dressed in the silver ribbon.

All four blends are offered in the same four sizes: a 5 x 52 robusto, a 6 x 52 toro, a 6 x 52 belicoso and a 6 x 60 gran toro. Pricing for the sampler is set at $280, with 1,000 boxes produced each year. They will begin shipping to stores during the trade show, which runs from Jan. 29-31, 2025.

A company representative says that, at this point, there are no plans to sell or package the cigars individually. That said, they are telling retailers that cigars from the collection can be sold individually at an MSRP of $17.50.

Lagarto Cigars is owned by ZR Cigars, and the cigars are produced at the ZR Cigars Factory in La Romana, Dominican Republic. ZR Cigars was founded in 2018 by Zohar Riezman and Candido Rosario, who is listed as the company’s master blender. Rosario is one of Altadis U.S.A.’s Grupo de Maestros as well as the manager of Tabacalera de García. Lagarto Cigars gets its name from the Spanish word for lizard, a name selected because while the cigars were being blended, lizards would emerge to enjoy the aromas emanating from the factory, and company personnel felt they should be recognized for being part of the blending process.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
