La Palina has begun shipping the 2023 batch of the Goldie Prominente, the third consecutive year it has released this size as an exclusive for retailers that place orders during the PCA Convention & Trade Show.

Like the two releases before it, the La Palina Goldie Prominente Series 3 is a 6 1/2 x 48 corona extra vitola. It debuted in 2021 and received a second release at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show. It is priced at $25 per cigar—$1 more than the originally announced price—with production limited to just 500 boxes of 10 cigars, the same amount that was produced for the 2022 release.

The La Palina Goldie blend uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, an Ecuadorian binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Bill Paley, owner of La Palina, has previously said that the Goldie honors the women of the cigar industry. It is named for his grandmother, Goldie Drell Paley, and made at El Titan de Bronze in Miami, which is also owned by a woman, Sandy Cobas.

The other La Palina Goldie release from the trade show, the Laguito No. 5, a 5 5/8 x 54 robusto extra, shipped to stores in late August.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
