At the 2023 Total Product Expo (TPE) in February, Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. debuted a new line called Maverick, which is named for co-founder Gerard Abajian’s son and described as much bolder and fuller than anything the company has released to date. It was limited to just 200 bundles of 10 cigars, offered in a single 6 x 54 toro vitola.

Next month, at the 2023 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Convention & Trade Show, the company will give the Maverick line a full release, adding two vitolas to the line, all of which will now come in 22-count boxes.

The blend remains the same, with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a corojo binder of undisclosed origin, and a filler that contains Pennsylvania broadleaf and criollo and piloto tobacco of undisclosed origin.

The line will now be available in three sizes:

  • Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. Maverick Robusto (5 x 50) — $9 (Box of 22, $198)
  • Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. Maverick Toro (6 x 54) — $10 (Box of 22, $220)
  • Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. Maverick Box-Pressed Gordo (6 x 60) — $11 (Box of 22, $242)

The cigars, which are produced at Casamorabo Tabacalera in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, are scheduled to begin shipping in August.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
