Indianhead Cigars, which was acquired by José “Jochy” Blanco in October 2015,  is continuing its refresh of some of the brand’s older lines, and next week it will ship its latest update: American Stogies War Hunter.

The revamped line uses a Cuban seed corojo wrapper from an undisclosed country, Honduran binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, with production handled by Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic. It’s being called a medium bodied, medium flavored cigar.

Four sizes are being released, a 6 x 60 (MSRP $5.25), 6 1/2 x 63 ($5.75), 7 x 70 ($6.50) and the Little Hunters (4 1/4 x 34, $0.99). The line is being released in a tray format that allows all four sizes to be displayed next to each other in a compact retail footprint, with 12 of each of the three larger sizes and 36 of the Little Hunters and an MSRP of $210.

The War Hunter isn’t being offered in boxes at this time, though each refill bundle contains 12 of the larger sizes and 36 of the Little Hunters.

The American Stogies brand traces its history back to 2001 when the line was launched with two wrapper options, an  Ecuadorian Connecticut and a Brazilian Connecticut broadleaf maduro. In 2003, the line received a fuller-bodied extension called the Classic Cuban Corojo series. In 2004, smaller vitolas were introduced in a natural blend as as well as Cherry Creme and Irish Creme flavored varieties. The line was produced by Plasencia Cigars S.A. in Nicaragua.

It’s the second relaunch of an Indianhead brand this year, following up on May’s release of Rough Rider Sweets. American Stogies War Hunter is scheduled to begin shipping to retailers during the first week of July.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the smallest size as Little Chiefs.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
