In 2016, Smallbatchcigar.com and its brick-and-mortar parent—Maxamar Ultimate Cigars in Orange, Calif.—received the Herrera Estelí Tienda Exclusiva Inktome, a limited edition 6 x 46 corona gorda vitola that was exclusive to the store.
Eight years later, the Inktome is once again available at Smallbatchcigar.com and Maxamar, albeit with slightly updated packaging. The cigar remains a box-pressed 6 x 46 corona gorda vitola that uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over a Honduran binder and fillers from Nicaragua. This is the same basic blend as the original Herrera Estelí line, though Drew Estate says the wrapper is said to be from a higher priming—higher up on the tobacco plant—and darker than the standard blend.
The MSRP is set at $13 per cigar. Drew Estate did not disclose the production numbers for this release, though the original was limited to just 1,000 cigars.
“Each Inktome cigar is a narrative, woven from the finest tobaccos and crafted into a masterpiece of flavor,” said Willy Herrera, master blender for Drew Estate, in a press release. “This exclusive release for Maxamar and Small Batch Cigar is no exception. It’s not just a cigar; it’s an experience, a rare treasure that we are proud to offer to the discerning cigar smoker.”
This is the third release of the Inktome. In 2018, the Inktome Exception was released. It was also a 6 x 46 corona gorda using the same base blend, though it featured in more aggressive box press like the one that is found on the Norteño line.
As for the name, it’s a reference to Inktomi, a defunct ISP. Maxamar opened in 1998 using funds generated from the sale of Inktomi stock.
