Gurkha Cigar Group, Inc. will be commemorating a pair of anniversaries by releasing two different cigars during the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show next month.

First up is the Gurkha 35th Anniversary, a new three-vitola line created to commemorate the purchase of the Gurkha brand by Kaizad Hansotia in 1989. The cigars are being produced at the El Artista factory in the Dominican Republic and are composed of an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, an Indonesian binder and filler tobaccos from Nicaragua.

The 35th Anniversary will debut in a 150-count humidor priced at $825 that will include 25 each of three different vitolas.

  • Gurkha 35th Anniversary Figurado (6 3/4 x 52)  — $11.95
  • Gurkha 35th Anniversary Toro (6 x 54) — $10.95
  • Gurkha 35th Anniversary Torpedo (6 1/8 x 52) — $11.49

“This ornate, piano finish, red humidor will be a great addition to anyone’s cigar and accessory collection,” said Juan Lopez, vp of sales for Gurkha, in a press release. “The cigars inside are even better!”

In an email, Bianca Lopez, director of marketing for Gurkha, told halfwheel that the 35th Anniversary humidors are scheduled to begin shipping “almost immediately” after the PCA Convention & Trade Show. Gurkha has indicated that the cigars will also be available outside of the humidor packaging, but a representative has not yet responded to an e-mail asking how many cigars will be in each box and when they will ship to retailers.

In addition, Gurkha will be releasing the Beauty 25th Anniversary, a 6 1/2 x 60 cigar priced at $30 that will be packaged in individual frosted tubes. While the original Beauty uses a Connecticut wrapper, the new Gurkha Beauty 25th Anniversary is blended with an Ecuadorian corojo wrapper and a Nicaraguan binder along with Dominican, Nicaraguan and Ecuadorian broadleaf filler tobaccos. The Gurkha Beauty 25th Anniversary comes in boxes of 25 cigars.

“It’s been 25 years since Gurkha first introduced the Beauty and it’s still a favorite cigar amongst connoisseurs,” said Jim Colucci, president and ceo of Gurkha Cigars, in a press release. “So we decided to do a special release on the Beauty honoring the 25 year anniversary.”

According to Lopez, the Beauty 25th Anniversary cigars are scheduled to ship to retailers in September, but she stated that packaging delays might cause the cigars to ship later.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
