The newest cigar from Gran Habano is on its way to stores, as the company has started shipping the G.A.R. American Standard, a line that the company says offers a more affordable option that doesn’t sacrifice the experience that consumers have to come to expect from the brand.

The blend features all Nicaraguan tobacco, though the company is not releasing any specifics about the varietals. The flavor profile is described as being medium-to-full-bodied with “a rich dark chocolate flavor, infused with black peppery notes in the finish.”

It is offered in five sizes, which are produced at G.R. Tabacaleras Unidas S.A. in Honduras.

  • Gran Habano G.A.R. American Standard Robusto (5 x 50) — $5.50 (Box of 50, $275)
  • Gran Habano G.A.R. American Standard Gran Robusto (6 x 54) — $6 (Box of 50, $300)
  • Gran Habano G.A.R. American Standard Imperial (6 x 60) — $6.40 (Box of 50, $320)
  • Gran Habano G.A.R. American Standard Czar (6 x 66) — $6.80 (Box of 50, $340)
  • Gran Habano G.A.R. American Standard Grandioso (7 x 70) — $7 (Box of 50, $350)

The line is a regular production offering, with the company estimating that production will be about 750,000 cigars per year.

In announcing the G.A.R. American Standard, Gran Habano said that it is actively working on bringing new products to the market that will be more price-conscious while maintaining the high quality for which it is known.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
