The newest Punch cigar from General Cigar Co. will be made by Julio and Justo Eiroa, best known as the father duo behind JRE Tobacco Co.
Not only is the new Punch Golden Era made with the Honduran corojo tobacco that the family grows at its farm outside of Danlí, Honduras, but it’s being made at Fábrica de Puros Aladino at Las Lomas Jamastran, the factory that makes the JRE Tobacco Co. cigars. While the Eiroa family is best known for the corojo tobacco, the Golden Era uses some Honduran habano in the filler. The wrapper and binder are both Honduran corojo.
It will be offered in three sizes:
- Punch Golden Era Robusto (5 x 50) — $9.99 (Box of 20, $199.80)
- Punch Golden Era Toro (6 x 52) — $10.49 (Box of 20, $209.80)
- Punch Golden Era Churchill (7 x 48) — $10.99 (Box of 20, $219.80)
“The Eiroa family has perfected Corojo tobacco and we are excited to bring it to life with Punch Golden Era,” said John Hakim, brand manager for Punch, in a press release. “This tobacco delivers a silky, golden wrapper, a binder with ideal combustibility and a filler that produces unique spicy notes and a spectrum of nuances. We’re especially pleased to make a true Corojo experience available for cigar lover to enjoy any time the occasion calls for a rich and rewarding smoke.”
General Cigar Co., which sells the non-Cuban Punch brand in the U.S., says the Golden Era will begin shipping to stores on May 1.
