After skipping a 2021 release, Crowned Heads will ship the latest iteration of its Four Kicks Mule Kick blend next month.

The Four Kicks Mule Kick Limited Edition 2022 is the sixth Mule Kick and the first one to use a Mexican San Andrés wrapper. As in the past, it remains a 5 7/8 x 52 robusto extra. The Mule Kick debuted in 2012, originally described as a tweaked version of the regular Four Kicks line, capped off with a darker wrapper.

That cigar was released as a one-off in 2012 and the Mule Kick wasn’t seen again until 2017 when the same blend—featuring an Ecuadorian habano wrapper—returned. In 2018, the blend changed with the wrapper switching to Connecticut habano. The 2019 version used an Ecuadorian Sumatran wrapper and the 2020 used a wrapper from Jalapa, Nicaragua. Like the regular Four Kicks line, it is made at Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. in the Dominican Republic.

This year’s release has an MSRP of $11.95 per cigar and is limited to 4,000 boxes of 10 cigars. It is expected to ship to stores in late April.

“We’re very excited to be bringing back the Mule Kick brand after a two year hiatus,” said Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a press release. “We began working on this rendition late last year with Ernesto Perez-Carrillo and quickly discovered that the Mexican San Andrés wrapper really complemented the Mule Kick blend; it lended (sic) a unique taste profile to the cigar that is unlike any previous Mule Kick version. The 2022 Mule Kick is impeccably balanced with great structure, and exhibits a nice smokey-spicy-sweet flavor profile.”
