This year’s Four Kicks Mule Kick won’t just feature a different wrapper than the regular Four Kicks, the internal blend has also been modified.

The Mule Kick is a limited edition that Crowned Heads releases in a 5 7/8 x 52 robusto extra size, but with a different wrapper than the Ecuadorian habano leaf normally used for the Four Kicks’ wrapper. Originally, that meant just a darker version of the wrapper, but Crowned Heads has also used completely different tobacco for the wrapper. This year’s Four Kicks Mule Kick Limited Edition 2023 will use an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The regular Four Kick blends uses Nicaraguan tobacco for the binder and filler.

Each cigar has an MSRP of $12.95 per cigar and production is limited to 3,000 boxes of 10 cigars. Crowned Heads will show off the Four Kicks Mule Kick Limited Edition 2023 at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which takes place July 8-11 in Las Vegas, before shipping the cigars in August.

Like the other Mule Kick cigars—and the Four Kicks line itself—this cigar is made at Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr.’s Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. in the Dominican Republic.

“The cover leaf really drove the blend for this year’s Mule Kick,” said Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a press release. “When Ernesto (Perez-Carrillo) presented this dark, rich Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper to us last year, I immediately earmarked it for Mule Kick 2023. When we went to validate the Mule Kick 2023 blend with that wrapper, Ernesto presented an alternative version of the blend that took the flavor profile to a different level. As it turned out, that blend incorporated a Dominican binder and some Dominican Piloto Cubano in the filler.”
