The Flor de Copán brand, which is part of the Tabacalera S.L.U. portfolio is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a newly released limited edition that has earned the designation of the brand’s first Gran Reserva release.

The Flor de Copán 20 Aniversario Gran Reserva’s blend features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua, which is described as offering a mild-to-medium strength profile highlighted by a woody aroma and flavor, while earth, mineral, nutmeg, leather, almond and coffee provide complementing tastes. The company says that the tobacco used in the blend has been aged for a minimum of five years, which gives it a unique personality.

The cigar is offered in one vitola, a grand corona with a pigtail cap that measures 159 mm (6 1/4 inches) long and has a 48 ring gauge. The vitola is being called Rosas as a tribute to the birthplace of the brand, Santa Rosa de Copan in Honduras. That name appears on the cedar foil, while the cigar wears two additional bands that the cigars wear that were specially created for this release.

Production is handled by La Flor de Copán, which dates back to 1796 and is referred to as the oldest cigar factory in Honduras.

The Flor de Copán 20 Aniversario Gran Reserva is presented in 10-count boxes, and while pricing will vary from country to country, the company said that the reference price is €13.50 ($14.67) per cigar. A total of 6,000 individually numbered have been produced for this release.

The Flor de Copán brand is currently available in more than 25 markets across Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Brazil.

Update — Shortly after this article was published, the company disclosed production numbers, which has been added to the story after previously being undisclosed.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
