FDG Cigars, the company long known as Flor de Gonzalez, will be unveiling a new trio of cigars that has a familiar name but offers a new direction from the company.

90 Millas, Spanish for 90 Miles, the brand that FDG is well known for, will be unveiled with three variations, a Connecticut shade wrapped version, an Ecuadorian habano maduro wrapped version, and a third variant called Unidos, which will feature a barber pole design with Ecuadorian habano maduro and Connecticut shade grown in the United States. The name references the distance between the southern tip of Florida and Cuba, where the Gonzalez family traces its roots.

“This line continues our tradition to honor the opportunity given to us by this country only 90 miles from our country of birth,” said Yadi Gonzalez-Vargas, president of FDG Cigars.

The 90 Millas Unidos promises to be the most eye-catching of the three given its barber pole design, which Yadi Gonzalez-Vargas says is inspired by the changes taking place both in Cuba as well as in the relationship between Cuba and the United States. Underneath its dual wrapper lies a dual binder of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos with Nicaraguan tobacco used for the filler. The Unidos will come in a Robusto (5 x 52, $9.65), Toro (6 x 54, $9.85) and Belicoso (6 1/2 x 54, $10).

The habano maduro version of 90 Millas uses a capa from Ecuador and will also come in three sizes: Robusto (5 x 52, $8.50), Toro (6 x 54, $8.75) and Belicoso (6 1/2 x 54, $9.25). The Connecticut version gets a shade grown wrapper and will come in the same three sizes but with slightly different price points: Robusto (5 x 52, $9.25), Toro (6 x 54, $9.55) and Belicoso (6 1/2 x 54, $9.75).

All of the cigars in the 90 Millas line are being produced at Agroindustrial Nicaraguanse de Tabacos in Nicaragua, the factory which FDG has used for several other recent projects, including its 20th Anniversary releases, the 90 Miles R.A. Nicaragua Lancero and Spectral. Each size and wrapper variety comes in 20-count boxes, with a total production of 2,700 boxes, though Gonzalez-Vargas says she is hopeful that this project will be well received enough to turn it into part of the company’s ongoing production.

Gonzalez-Vargas added that the lines will begin shipping immediately after the conclusion of the IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, which happens July 24-28 in Las Vegas, Nev.
