Perhaps it will be something that only happens in odd-numbered years; perhaps there will be another event next year.

Next week, Tei-An will host a preview of the upcoming Davidoff Anviersario No. 1 Limited Edition. For those unfamiliar, the massive 8 2/3 x 48 double corona was introduced in 1986 to celebrate the 80th birthday of Zino Davidoff. The company discontinued the cigar—known for its unique wooden tubos—in 2016, but is bringing it back in limited fashion this year. Blend-wise, it uses an Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut-seed wrapper, a binder from Ecuador, and Dominican piloto viso, San Vicente viso and San Vicente Mejorado viso in the filler.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, I—along with a dozen others—will be at a dinner at my favorite restaurant, where those cigars will be smoked ahead of their release next year. That restaurant is Tei-An and readers of this site might be familiar as it is regularly mentioned on this site.

This is the third of these dinners that we are a part of. Truth be told, this is not a halfwheel dinner, rather we are sort of the glue in between Davidoff and the restaurant. Eddy Guerra, senior brand manager for Davidoff, will be on hand to present the Anviersario No. 1 Limited Edition and talk about why the cigar is coming back in 2023.

During dinner, each patron will receive a pour of the following whiskies:

  • Highland Park 18
  • Highland Park 25
  • Highland Park 30
  • Highland Park 40
  • Yamazaki 18 Mizunara 100th

Furthermore, the dinner will be paired with Teiichi Sakurai’s fall omakase menu. If previous dinners are any indication, I’d expect sashimi, A5 beef and soba, always soba.

For more information about what to expect, I’d recommend reading about the 2019 or 2021 dinner. Like the 2021 dinner, this will be hosted on Tei-An’s air-conditioned rooftop patio, which has great views of the Dallas skyline.

My understanding is that there might be two seats remaining. If you are interested, please call the restaurant (214-220-2828) and ask for Best.

If you are unable to attend—it’s quite short notice—but are in Dallas, I will always recommend Tei-An. It’s the place I go to on Saturdays to have a meal, smoke a cigar and relax.
