Beginning Monday, July 1, Cigar Chief will be the new Canadian distributor for Escobar Cigars.
While the company already has distribution in other international markets, Cigar Chief will be the first international distributor to carry the new Escobar Ultra Black Platinum Series, a limited edition made by Casa Carrillo. In addition to the distribution agreement, Escobar has created a new series of house blend cigars for Cigar Chief. They are all offered in a 5 x 54 size with four wrapper options: Ecuadorian Connecticut, premium Ecuadorian Connecticut, Habano and Maduro. Those blends are produced by PDR Cigars in the Dominican Republic.
“The beginning of our partnership with Escobar cigars was natural after hearing Nas got involved with the company,” said Matt Greenwood, principal of Cigar Chief, in a press release. “Having grown up listening to his music, we were very eager to see what we could come up with together. We are extremely excited to offer Escobar Cigars and Escobar Ultra Black Cigars and look forward to the upcoming launch of the Escobar Cut Wraps.”
In 2021, Puros Privados—the parent company of Escobar—announced that Nasir Jones, the rapper Nas, had been added as an equity partner in the brand. The brand name is also a tie-in to another name that Nas has frequently referred to himself as, including in a 1997 track called Escobar ’97. David Gomes and Michael McNaughton are the company’s principal owners. The company says it has distribution in more than 20 countries and has begun to push expansion into more humidors in the U.S.
