The E.P. Carrillo Maduro, the second release in the company’s Essence Series is slated to be on stores shelves in late May or early June, the company announced today.

The line will use a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, a Honduran binder, and fillers from Nicaragua, with production happening at the company’s Casa Carrillo factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic. It is being released in the same three sizes and at the same three price points at the E.P. Carrillo Sumatra, which debuted at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show in March.

  • E.P. Carrillo Maduro Robusto (5 x 50) — $9.25 (Box of 24, $222)
  • E.P. Carrillo Maduro Toro (6 x 52) — $10 (Box of 24, $240)
  • E.P. Carrillo Maduro Gordo (6 x 60) — $10.75 (Box of 24, $258)

“I’m very excited of this particular blend, its different from anything I’ve done before in a maduro,” said Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. in a press release. “I encourage anyone who loves our cigars to try this one because it will also become one of your favorites.”.

Lissette Perez-Carrillo told halfwheel that the same three sizes will be used throughout the Essence Series, which will get another new line when the company adds the E.P. Carrillo Honduras later this year.

Next year, the company is planning on releasing three more lines, the Connecticut, Nicaragua and Cameroon, which will bring the Essence Series to a total of six lines.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
