Drew Estate has a new event-only cigar, the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Super Ancho.

As super ancho means super wide, it’s fitting that the cigar is a 6 x 60 gordo. It uses a wrapper grown by one farm in the Connecticut River Valley exclusively for Drew Estate, a leaf that is a hybrid derived from stalk-cut habano and Connecticut corojo. Underneath that is a Mexican San Andrés Otapan Último Corte binder and fillers from Honduras, Nicaragua and Pennsylvania, the latter of which is the infamous Green River One Sucker, known for its strength and potent flavor.

The company calls the profile of the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo “deceptively full-bodied with notes of earth, leather and espresso.”

“Super Ancho’s 6 x 60 format answers the thousands of large ring gauge requests that we’ve been fielding for Liga Privada for more than ten years,” said Jonathan Drew, co-founder and president of Drew Estate, via a press release. “We didn’t fold under pressure to get this 60-ring on the market until it was absolutely perfect and worthy of the name Liga Privada. Additionally, this private blend is truly super-complex, and should be explored by the dudes and dudettes who typically smoke smaller rings, even those who smoke lanceros. Super Ancho is just different.”

The Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Super Ancho is priced at $21.14 per cigar and $507.36 for a box of 25 cigars. However, it will only be available to Drew Diplomat Program retail partners, and only for events. On top of that, a retailer will be limited to just three boxes per event, further limiting availability.

In June 2022, Drew Estate added a lancero to the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo, a vitola called Phineas Gage. The line is also available in toro and robusto vitolas, all of which are produced at La Gran Fábrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
