The newest addition to Davidoff’s series of black-banded cigars, formally known as the Discovery Series, is off to stores.
It’s the Davidoff Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited Edition, which as the name implies, is made to honor the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the Davidoff Nicaragua. This cigar is a 6 x 56 toro extra that uses an Ecuadorian wrapper over a binder from Jalapa and fillers from three of Nicaragua’s main growing regions: Condega, Estelí and Jalapa. According to Davidoff, the combined age of these tobaccos is 45-years-old.
The most unique tobacco is one of the Estelí fillers—there are three—as it was aged for six months in spent rum barrels, the first time this practice has been used for a Davidoff release.
Each cigar has an MSRP of $36, and this release is limited to 3,300 boxes of 12 cigars for the U.S. market, though there will be additional boxes for international markets.
“Coming from sophisticated and milder Dominican blends with our White Band Collection, we wanted to please those looking for a more intense palate stimulation,” said Edward Simon, chief marketing officer at Oettinger Davidoff AG, in a press when the cigar was announced last month. “For our Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited Edition, our experts took on a new challenge to create yet more depth for our loyal aficionados. Our labour- intensive cask fermentation and the remarkable age of the tobaccos have led to a full-bodied and refined cigar experience second to none.”
In addition to the cigars, there’s a new matte black finish of its Davidoff Double Blade Cutter. The German-made double guillotine cutter design is not new, but this is a new finish.
The cutter has an MSRP of $425. There are 350 numbered cutters being made, just 45 of them will be sent to stores in the U.S.
