The Davenport City Council has snuffed out smoking in parks, passing an ordinance at its meeting on Wednesday that prohibits smoking and vaping at all city parks and park facilities.
The ordinance does create an exemption for the city’s golf course, however does not create the same exemption for the city’s disc golf courses. The exemption came after concerns were raised about potential lost revenue from smokers who wouldn’t be allowed to light up while playing golf and thus choose to play elsewhere or not at all.
Violators of the ban could be charged with a municipal infraction or a simple misdemeanor, which would come with a fine of $100.
The council approved the ban by a 7-2 vote. It goes into effect immediately upon publication.
Davenport is home to approximately 102,000 residents.
