Dapper Cigar Co. is now shipping a cigar that is not only the company’s first limited edition creation but also the first time the company has released a figurado vitola.

The Genesis is a 6 1/2 x 28 x 52 box-pressed figurado composed of a Mexican San Andrés wrapper covering a binder and filler blend grown in Nicaragua. It is produced at Nicaragua American Cigars S.A. located in Estelí, Nicaragua.

According to a press release, Genesis is a collaboration with HolySmoke, a Bible study group founded in 2018 that “celebrates the intersection of faith and cigars” by providing “a comfortable environment where individuals can enjoy a cigar and get to know God better through fellowship and discussions about the Bible.”

“When the HolySmoke group reached out to me nearly three years ago to make them a cigar…I was admittingly a little hesitant,” said Ian Reith, founder of Dapper Cigar Co., in a press release. “Their cause and their commitment to not cutting any corners in any aspect of the production made the project impossible for me to turn down.”

A total of 10,000 cigars were produced, priced at $16.67 each and packaged in 12-count boxes, a number chosen to symbolize the 12 disciples who followed Jesus in the Bible. In an email with halfwheel, Reith confirmed that boxes of the Genesis started shipping to retailers today.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
