Cory Bappert is the new ceo of Oliva Cigar Co.

Bappert, the longtime vp of sales, has been promoted to the chief executive position. He succeeds José Oliva, who is moving onto an advisory role for the company. Last month, Oliva was recently named the speaker of the Florida House of Representatives.

“It’s a great honor to be chosen to lead our company,” said Bappert in a statement to halfwheel. I’m grateful in Fred Vandermarliere’s confidence in me to carry the successes or our company into the future. Our industry has a lot of challenges ahead of it, and having worked so closely with Jose Oliva the past several years as well as having a great team in Miami and Nicaragua I am confident in my ability to navigate any waters that may lie ahead.”

For the last year, Bappert has served as the company’s vice-president, he joined the company in 2006 as one of its original salesmen and has served as the vp of sales since 2012.

In addition, Paul Alcazar—the company’s cfo—will retire later this month, he will be succeeded by Oswaldo Carrera.

In 2016 Oliva was purchased by J. Cortès.

Update — Added Bappert’s statement.
