Tomorrow, Caldwell Cigar Co. will begin shipping a trio of new blends from Francisco “Chico” Rivas’ Manufactura Rivas factory in the Dominican Republic.
There are two new cigars under the Long Live The King BAR-NONE name. Blend-wise, it is made entirely of Dominican tobacco, with the binder and wrapper using Cuban-seed tobaccos.
It’s offered in two sizes, each limited to 500 boxes:
- Long Live The King BAR-NONE Robusto (5 x 50) — $13.50 (Box of 20, $270)
- Long Live The King BAR-NONE Toro (6 x 52) — $15 (Box of 20, $300)
Historically, Long Live The King has been a brand made at Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic. Last September, the factory caught fire and was destroyed. While the factory is scheduled to be reopened in September 2024, Caldwell—one of the factory’s largest clients—has been forced to discontinue some lines, move production to the Ventura family’s other factory, and—as is the case here—find new production partners for new releases.
The other two new blends are part of the Blind Mans Bluff Toro Deluxe trio. Caldwell released the first cigar in the series last year, but now the series is getting completed. The Blind Mans Bluff Toro Deluxe – Chico White Edition and Chico Gold Edition are both 6 x 54 toro extras that have an MSRP of $10.40 per cigar. Interestingly, all three Blind Mans Bluff Toro Deluxe use an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over a Dominican binder and Dominican fillers; Robert Caldwell told halfwheel that the blends are different as the tobaccos aren’t all from the same sources and weren’t processed the same.
Both of the cigars are limited to 165 cabinets of 100 cigars. Those cabinets more or less look the same, but the Chico White Edition has a white sticker on the right side, while the Gold Edition has a gold sticker.
