After over a year and a half off the market, Buena Vista is reentering the cigar market. It is now firmly under the MGM Cigar name and headed by José E. Borges Batista. Production has moved to the Dominican Republic and pricing is much lower, but Batista claims the cigars are the same as the ones that entered the market in 2011.

In a press release, the company claims that issues regarding the company led to the disappearance from the market, but 200,000 cigars were stored from the production and are now ready to be released.

We reviewed the Ecuadorian puro line from the company called the Buena Vista Edición Limitada. The other line, the Buena Vista Reserva 2008 featured an Ecuadorian wrapper and Dominican fillers, it is the line being rereleased today.

Buena Vista was known for its high pricing, something that it seems to be getting away from. The Short Churchill (4 1/4 x 54), Petit Piramide (4 7/8 x 52), Corona (5 1/8 x 46) and Corona Larga (5 7/8 x 50) sizes will all retail for $6, the  (5 3/8 x 54) for $8.40 and the Doble Robusto (5 5/8 x 52) for $9. The line tops out at $10 with the Prominentes (7 x 49), Sublimes (6 1/2 x 54) and Piramide (6 7/8 x 52) vitolas. All sizes are available in 10-count boxes.

The M.GM. Cigar project and first brand Buena Vista cigar was nothing more than a dream in 2009,” said Batista in a press release. “It quickly caught flight, only to be put to bed for a short while. I am thankful to have relocated to the United States where I am free to forge ahead with our project. We look forward to re-introducing the Buena Vista Cigar brand which pays homage to all who, through music and from one generation to another, have kept the Cuban traditions, values and joie de vivre alive.”

The cigars are now made at the company’s Dominican Republic-based factory, while the original cigars were rolled at a factory in Mexico.
