The lead item in the J.C. Newman list of new products being shown at the 2012 IPCPR convention and trade show is an extension to the Brick House line, the Mighty Mighty Maduro. It’s the first maduro version of the Brick House line, and for now will be the only size to get a maduro version.

Company president Eric Newman said that consumers have been asking for a maduro version of the 6 1/4 x 60 cigar, and they responded with a Brazilian Arapiraca Maduro wrapper over binder and filler from Nicaragua. The Brick House Mighty Mighty Maduro will be sold in boxes of 25, with a MSRP of $5.95 per cigar and $148.75 per box.

Also new from Brick House is the previously announced Brick House Teaser, a 3 1/2 x 56 cigar that will only be available at Brick House Bash events. The small, girthy cigar is said to give consumers just enough taste to experience the Brick House flavor. It uses a Nicaraguan Havana Subido™ wrapper over Nicarguan binder and filler.

Making its debut at IPCPR 2012 will be a new line called Perla del Mar, a four-vitola line that uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. It will be available in September 2012.

“Flavorful Nicaraguan cigars like our Brick House brand have become very popular. However, the dark Havana Seed wrappers tend to produce a bolder smoke that is not for everyone,” said J.C. Newman President, Eric Newman in a statement. “Our Perla del Mar cigars offer the best of both worlds. The smooth creamy flavor of a Connecticut wrapper with the interesting, complex flavors of Nicaraguan filler and binder. This is a cigar you could enjoy daily.”

The filler and binder tobaccos have been selected from four different distinct regions in Nicaragua, Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, Condega and Jalapa. When paired with the mild, creamy shade wrapper, this mixture provides a lighter, fresher flavor with the depth of flavor and complexities cigar smokers have come to enjoy in Nicaraguan tobacco.

“We don’t take new product launches lightly. A lot of time, thought and effort over the past three years has gone into Perla del Mar,” said J.C. Newman Executive Vice President, Bobby Newman. “We are very excited to bring this unique cigar to market to
add to our highly rated Nicaraguan portfolio.”

The Perla del Mar will be available in four box-pressed sizes:

  • Perla P – 3 3/4 x 56 – MSRP $4.50
  • Perla M – 4 3/4 x 52 – MSRP $4.85
  • Perla G – 6 1/4 x 52 – MSRP $5.50
  • Perla TG – 6 x 60 – MSRP $5.95

The Perla M, G and TG will come in 20-count boxes, while the Perla P will be packed in a 28-count box.

2012 also marks the 10th anniversary of the “Toast Across America” program, where a pair of Arturo Fuente and J.C. Newman cigars are sold to raise money for the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation. The 2012 anniversary will come in a tuxedoed slide-top box and contain a Fuente Fuente OpusX Figurado and a Diamond Crown Julius Caesar Figurado.

The cigars will be available starting September 1, with in-store events running through January 31.

J.C. Newman will also have a number of new accessories on display, including a new line of 60-ring gauge leather cigar cases, updated Diamond Crown humidification devices and St. James series ashtrays, and several new humidors from Diamond Crown and Craftsman’s Bench.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
