Altadis U.S.A. has announced a new entry to its Montecristo brand, Montecristo M, which the company says uses a 20-year-old wrapper leaf.

That wrapper is an Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed leaf grown by A.S.P. Enterprises. Underneath that is a Nicaraguan-grown binder and filler, with the company calling the blend medium in body as a way to highlight the nuances of the wrapper leaf. The cigar is made by AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua.

Montecristo M is being offered in four sizes:

  • Montecristo M Robusto (4 3/4 x 54) — $30 (Box of 20, $600)
  • Montecristo M Toro (6 x 52) — $32 (Box of 20, $640, Pack of 5, $160)
  • Montecristo M No. 2 (6 1/4 x 52) — $33.50 (Box of 20, $670)
  • Montecristo M Churchill (7 x 50 — $35 (Box of 20, $700)

Keeping with tradition, the No. 2 vitola is a torpedo. Additionally, the toro is the only size that will also be offered in packs of five cigars. While the Montecristo M is not a limited edition, the company said that it will be made in small batches due to the limited availability of the wrapper.

The Montecristo M is due out in December.

Altadis U.S.A. announced the cigar via Cigar Aficionado. A representative of the company has not yet replied to an email seeking to confirm the accuracy of that report, as well as a request for images of the cigars.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
