9. Espinosa Las 6 Provincias CMW

Last year, Espinosa Premium Cigars released the fourth installment of its Las 6 Provincias line. In keeping with the tradition of the previous three, it lands on halfwheel’s Packaging Awards list.

As with the three previous releases, the Espinosa Las 6 Provincias CMW features artwork by Edin Gutierrez, who was born in Santa Clara, Cuba but now calls Miami home. This was one of the more traditional boxes that the Las 6 Provincias line has used; at first glance it looks like a typical hinged-lid box, but hidden inside that lid are a pair of panels that slide out to unveil more of Gutierrez’s work, particularly a scene from the Camagüey province prior to the Cuban Revolution.

The debut LHB was offered in a traditional box as well as one that swung back and forth on a mount that was somewhat reminiscent of the support towers of a Ferris Wheel, and the MTZ came in a box designed to look like a house window with an accent replicating a stain glass window. While not as elaborate as its predecessors, the CMW is still an eye-catcher due to Gutierrez’s art and the unexpected panels in the lid, and one that earns its place on this list. —Patrick Lagreid
