Note: The Davidoff Diademas Finas Limited Edition 50th Anniversary tied for second with the Espinosa Las 6 Provincias LHB.
The original Davidoff Diademas Finas came in a simple cardboard box with no bands. Twelve years later, when the company decided to rerelease what has become of its most storied cigars as part of its 50th anniversary, a bit more than cardboard was used. And there’s not one band, but two.
Mariane Léger designed the porcelain jars which feature a wood cap, a modern enough look to fit in at your favorite design store. While the cigars were all identical, there are actually four different jars, each inspired by a different region: Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Davidoff also released accompanying accessories, which all feature the same designs by Léger.
It’s also worth pointing out that Davidoff also made some effort to ensure the cigars were not damaged in the jar while being shipped. Each jar includes a divider system that is made to reduce rattling around, something that’s been an issue on other jar releases in the past.
Davidoff has set the bar for its packaging higher than any other company in the industry and while the 50th anniversary might have not been its most innovative release, the Diademas Finas 50th Anniversary release is one of the most refined offerings from the company. — Charlie Minato.
