T-2. Espinosa Las 6 Provincias LHB

Note: The Espinosa Las 6 Provincias LHB tied for second with the Davidoff Diademas Finas Limited Edition 50th Anniversary.

Even had it not been for the swinging box option, I’d have given the Espinosa Las 6 Provincias high marks for its packaging. But to reimagine what a cigar box could look like in this manner put it over the top, and at no financial premium to the customer.

Both packaging formats feature bright and vibrant artwork reminiscent of Cuba’s pre-Revolution days, but the swingbox option adds something rarely seen in cigar packaging: motion. A gentle push starts the box rocking back and forth in a manner befitting a quiet afternoon with a cigar.

While there are some concerns about long-term durability and the ability to preserve humidity outside of a humidor, there are no quibbles about design. Erik Espinosa Jr. said he wanted to do something different for this release that wasn’t just a typical jar, and he hit it out of the park with this creation. — Patrick Lagreid.
