Saga Short Tales: Tales of the Land Cotuí Emerges

The second book in Saga’s Short Tales Collection is beginning to appear on shelves around the country.

Saga Short Tales: Tales of the Land Cotuí is the second cigar in the 10-cigar offering. The series is noted by its unique packaging, which is designed to look like an old book, classic binding and a few pages in all.

While the first release is probably known more for its packaging than anything else, it was a top five candidate for our top packaging list; anyone that smoked the cigar can attest to just how strong it was. And that wasn’t by mistake, the cigar was called Tales of High Primings, a reference to the higher primings of the plans that produce strong grades of tobacco like ligero.

The second release, Tales of the Land Cotuí also has a name that hints about the cigar. Cotuí is a city in the Cibao region of the Dominican Republic in the Sierra de Yamasá, a mountain range. It’s best known for its gold mines, but it also sits just below the splitting of the Yuta River. This makes the mountainous region one of the more fertile areas of the country and a favorable home for tobacco.

As for the cigar it’s a 4 7/8 x 52 short torpedo. It uses a wrapper from Cotuí grown on farms owned by Monika Kelner. Underneath is an Indonesian Sumatra binder and Dominican negrito and piloto fillers along with Connecticut broadleaf. The cigar is designed to be noticeably lighter in nicotine than Tales of the High Primings.

Pricing is set at $8.50 and the cigar comes in boxes of 10.

While Tales of the Land Cotuí began fully shipping in November, attendees of Procigar 2017, which takes place later this month, are expected to get a preview of a few of the next sizes in the series.
