Smoking in restaurants, arenas and city facilities in Grand Prairie will be banned after the Dallas suburb’s City Council voted unanimously in favor of the new restrictions. There is however a long list of exemptions which includes tobacconists, bars, billiard halls and hookah lounges.
While smoking in sports arenas is banned, Lone Star Park, the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s horse track is also exempt.
According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, few people spoke in opposition to the ordinance.
Still, antismoking advocates were not pleased. Smoke Free Texas and others advocated for a bill with zero exemptions.
Grand Prairie is located in between Dallas and Fort Worth with a population of over 175,000.
