The Ypsilanti Township (Mich.) Board of Trustees have brought and end to smoking in township parks, approving the second reading of the ordinance during its Oct. 18 meeting.

According to, the ban will cover some 958 acres of parkland and fines for violators will be capped at $500 for multiple offenses and could include up to 90 days in jail.

Ypsilanti Township is home to approximately 53,362 residents. It’s located approximately 12 miles southeast of Ann Arbor and 38 miles west of Detroit.
