Woodward, Okla. will close out 2014 with a brand new ban on tobacco usage on city property, as the city council passed the ban at is Dec. 1 meeting, with the ordinance going into effect in 30 days.

The ban covers all city property both indoors and outdoors, but the city manager affirmed that it’s not designed to target residents. WoodwardNews.net reports that the ordinance is being used as a way to offer guidance primarily, but also provide the rule of law should someone be bothered by smoking at a city park or other public location.

Woodward is located approximately 140 miles northwest of Oklahoma City and had a 2013 population estimate of 12,758.
