Waynesville, N.C. Smoking Ban Passes

The Smoking Mountain town of Waynesville, N.C. just got a bit less smoky.

Last week, the Board of Alderman voted unanimously in favor of a smoking ban that will prohibit tobacco products—including e-cigarettes—on sidewalks, public parks, parking lots, greenways, city vehicles and the area in and surrounding town buildings. According to a report from Smoky Mountain News, the ban will go into effect in November.

A recent version of the bill indicated fines would be no more than $50.

Waynesville is the largest city in Haywood County with a population of just under 10,000 people. It is located in western North Carolina near the Tennessee border, about 60 miles southeast of Knoxville, Tenn.
