Last month, I sat down to chat with James Giehm and Nick Syris of Simply Stogies. The two came prepared with a litany of questions about halfwheel, philosophies on cigar ratings, controversies with the PCA Convention & Trade Show, regulation, and The Consensus. (Yes, it will happen again.)

You can watch the interview above or listen to the audio version here.

There was a point in time—peak lockdown—when these interviews got monotonous. As the number of these types of shows has decreased, it’s nice to see that those who are still doing it aren’t just trying to fill airtime. As I mentioned in the episode, I’d love for them to get Brooks on the show at some point. When Brooks goes to Cuba, Syris tends to also be there and his knowledge of the island has been helpful to both Brooks and me. Those two have more firsthand experience than most about the island and its progression over the last five years and James Giehm clearly puts some thought into the questions he wants to ask. Listening to the three of them go back and forth about Cuba would be a great and insightful episode.

As always, thanks to these two for inviting me on the show.

I am an editor and co-founder of halfwheel.com/Rueda Media, LLC. I previously co-founded and published TheCigarFeed, one of the two predecessors of halfwheel. I have written about the cigar industry for more than a decade, covering everything from product launches to regulation to M&A. In addition, I handle a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff here at halfwheel. I enjoy playing tennis, watching boxing, falling asleep to the Le Mans 24, wearing sweatshirts year-round and eating gyros. echte liebe.
