The Villiger Miami 2022, a new limited edition line that has its roots in a cigar given out to guests visiting the company’s Miami office, is set to head to stores on Monday, Aug. 22.

The line uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut desflorado wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic, a blend created by José Matias Maragoto at the ABAM Cigar Factory in the Domincian Republic.

It is offered in two vitolas:

  • Villiger Miami 2022 Laguito No.1 (7 1/2 x 38) — $15 (Box of 10, $150)
  • Villiger Miami 2022 Robusto (5 x 50) — $15 (Box of 10, $150)

“We named the cigars Villiger Miami 2022 because, since the beginning of 2021, it has been the cigar we give to our friends, customers and colleagues when they visit our Miami office,” said Rene Castaneda, president of Villiger Cigars North America, told halfwheel earlier this year.

Production is limited to 500 boxes of each size. The company showed the cigar at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
