Last week, UPS representatives began informing customers that it would no longer be able to ship tobacco products using COD. As it turns out, that will not be the case.
The issue was related to a change in policy, albeit not one related to COD, short for cash on delivery, a process where, for a fee, UPS collects the payment for the shipment upon delivery and then sends the money to the shipper.
UPS is requiring all tobacco shipments to ship with Adult Signature Required, meaning that someone at least 21-years-old must sign for the package. The representatives informed tobacco companies that WorldShip, a UPS software used by many, would not allow for both COD and Adult Signature Required.
By late last week, the company said it was working to develop a solution to the software issue, one that is now in effect. Tobacco companies using WorldShip will first need to select Adult Signature Required and then COD in order for the order to process correctly.
Some companies, most notably Padrón, began informing customers that because of the change they would no longer be able to ship via COD.
