The Board of Directors of Cigar Rights of America (CRA) has announced that Tony Gomez, vp of La Flor Dominicana, has been appointed to the CRA Board of Directors after a unanimous vote on Tuesday.

“As we reflect upon our recent court victory, Tony’s depth of experience at such a young age provides an invaluable new perspective on CRA’s board,” said Gary Pesh, CRA board chairman and owner of Old Virginia Tobacco Co., via a press release.

Gomez will join the board immediately, filling the spot that was vacated by Alan Rubin, formerly of Alec Bradley, who resigned following the sale of the company to Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) in February.

“I am thrilled to join CRA and contribute to their efforts to protect the premium cigar industry,” Gomez said in a press release. “CRA continues to set the industry standard for professionalism in advocacy, and I cannot wait to get started.”

Gomez’s father, Litto, previously served on the CRA Board of Directors and has been a tireless supporter of CRA and its mission to preserve and protect the traditions of premium cigars.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
