The three new sizes of the Tatuaje Tattoo are on their way to retail, as once again a store with a close connection to Tatuaje is one of the first to report having them.

Dan Welsh of New Havana Cigars announced the Tattoo’s arrival on Monday morning; Welsh has had a long relationship with Tatuaje and is one of the founders of L’Atelier Imports, a separate company started with Pete Johnson and his brother K.C., as well as a third partner, Sean “Casper” Johnson. Pete Johnson told halfwheel that the cigars began shipping last Monday.

One size in the Tattoo line, the 5 x 50 Caballeros, has been on store shelves since early May, with an MSRP of $5 and 50-count box packaging. The remaining three sizes, the 6 x 50 Universo ($5.50), 6 1/8 x 52 Bonito torpedo ($6) and 5 1/2 x 58 Adivino ($6.50) were all on display at the 2014 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show. Each vitola comes in a box with unique artwork that draws from some of Johnson’s own tattoos.

The cigars are made at My Father Cigars’ Tabacalera Cubana (TACUBA) factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Tatuaje Tattoo uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and Nicaraguan binder and fillers.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
