Fans of Tatuaje who have been patiently waiting for the release of the company’s 20th anniversary cigars will have to wait a bit longer, as Pete Johnson told halfwheel that he has decided to delay their release until late October or early November.

While the cigars are done and packed, the decision became a logistical one, as getting the Tatuaje 20th on shelves increasingly looked like it would encroach upon the upcoming release of The Face Redux 3, the newest Monster Series release. Johnson said he didn’t want those releases happening so close to each other, especially given the stress of a Monster Series release. He said that letting The Face Redux 3 ship first would lessen the stress on those responsible for organizing the shipping.

The Tatuaje 20th Anniversary line uses an Ecuadorian habano-seed wrapper atop a Nicaraguan double binder and Nicaraguan fillers. It is offered in two sizes, both of which are produced at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua:

  • Tatuaje 20th Grande Merveille (6 1/8 x 46) — $13 (Box of 20, $260)
  • Tatuaje 20th Grand Chasseur (6 3/8 x 54) — $14 (Box of 20, $280)

The cigars were originally scheduled to ship in August, but shipping delays started pushing them back a bit. When that delay pushed them further into September, Johnson made the decision to shift them to a late October or early November release.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
