Lancero

Last year, General Cigar Co. turned to the factory best known for producing JRE’s cigars for a new Punch line. This year, the company added a lancero to the line.

The Red is West Tampa Tobacco Co.’s newest line, and the lancero is newest size for the line. It also joined the company’s other core lines, White and Black.

The newest vitola in General Cigar Co.’s Riviera line also happens to be the first lancero in the non-Cuban Cohiba brand’s history. However, the blend remains the same as the previous three vitolas in the line, including the wrapper grown in Mexico’s San Andrés region.

The Joya de Nicaragua Cabinetta Serie No. 13 is now simply known as the Joya Cabinetta Lancero. After an eight-year hiatus, the 7 1/2 x 38 size returned to shelves this year as a limited edition release.

The cigar measures 7 9/16 (192mm) x 40, a vitola known as a Laguito Especial, which happens to be the same size as the legendary Trinidad Fundadores.

Created to commemorate Miami Cigar & Co. co-founder Néstor Miranda’s 80th birthday, the NM80 cigars are Nicaraguan puros made at My Father Cigars S.A.

Don’t call it a comeback.

The Alfonso Gran Selección is described as a darker version of the Alfonso Extra Añejo. Given that the Extra Añejo was #1 on halfwheel’s Top 25 of 2022, the bar has been set very high.

This summer, JRE Tobacco Co. added the 7 x 38 Elegante to its Classic line, which isn’t as corojo-forward as others in the company’s portfolio.

The lancero is one of four regular production vitolas in the line that is made with a Cameroon wrapper covering a Sumatran binder and filler tobaccos grown in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
