Altadis U.S.A. has announced that it has a new limited edition cigar called Book of Love for its Romeo y Julieta brand that is slated to come out in early June.

It is a 6 x 52 toro that reportedly uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper atop a Dominican binder and filler, including piloto tobaccos from the Navarette and La Canela regions, with production handled by Tabacalera de García in La Romana, Dominican Republic. the MSRP is set at $13 per cigar, with the line offered in bright red 10-count boxes designed to look like books. While the cigar was described as a limited edition, production numbers have not yet been disclosed.

“The Romeo y Julieta Book of Love is one of the most flavorful blends we’ve ever made for the Romeo y Julieta brand,” said Pedro Ventura, director of operations, in a press release. “The most predominant tobacco in the blend is the Dominican Piloto variety from two regions of the Dominican Republic – Navarrete and La Canela – located in the heart of the Cibao Valley. This cigar from Romeo y Julieta, with its great complexity and medium-to-full body, will satisfy even the most educated of palates.”

According to the company, shipping is set to begin on June 5.

Altadis U.S.A. announced the cigar via Cigar Aficionado, but representatives of the company have not yet responded to e-mails seeking confirmation of the accuracy of that report.

Update — A representative from Altadis U.S.A. replied to an e-mail but declined to provide images and details of the cigar, saying they would be made available on Tuesday. That individual did not respond to a request for confirmation of the accuracy of the details reported by Cigar Aficionado.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
