After debuting in 2006, the Omar Ortez Connecticuts is getting a reblend that will be arriving at retailers next month, as Altadis U.S.A. has announced a new, milder Omar Ortez Connecticuts.

The blend uses an Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut seed wrapper, while the binder and filler both hail from Nicaragua, which the company calls  medium-bodied profile. The cigar is offered in three sizes:

  • Omar Ortez Connecticuts Robusto (5 x 54) — $7.30 (Box of 20, $146; Box of 60, $438)
  • Omar Ortez Connecticuts Toro (6 x 54) — $8 (Box of 20, $160; Box of 60, $480)
  • Omar Ortez Connecticuts Magnum (6 x 60) — $8.95 (Box of 20, $179; Box of 60, $537)

The line is made at Agroindustrial Nicaraguense de Tabacos S.A. in Nicaragua, which is owned by Omar Ortez. Shipping is reportedly beginning during the second week of July.

Update (June 30, 2022) — The company issued a press release and images of the cigar today; those have been added to the story. The initial information in the story was based off an unconfirmed report by Cigar Aficionado

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
