The days of smoking cigars in parks and other city-owned recreational areas in Providence, R.I. are almost certainly numbered. A new ban that would include cigars and all other tobacco products including smokeless tobacco and e-cigarettes has advanced to the Committee on Ordinances. If it is approved, it will then head to the full Council for a formal vote.

Fines would start at $50 under the current version of the approval, which was recommend by the Board of Park Commissioners earlier this Spring.
