At its annual general meeting, the members of Procigar elected Litto Gomez of La Flor Dominicana as its new president and Ciro Cascella, president of Fuente International, as its vice president.

Additionally, the organization named Hendrik “Henke” Kelner as its president ad vitam in recognition of his 32 years of service to the premium cigar industry.

Procigar was formed in 1992 by a group of the Dominican Republic’s top cigar makers with the intention of protecting the reputation and future of the country’s cigar industry by setting and maintaining the highest standards of quality and preserving the country’s heritage. Member companies often affix the organization’s logo to cigar boxes to indicate their status as a member company and commitment to the organization’s ideals.

The organization also hosts an annual festival in February that celebrates the country’s cigar heritage with visits to farms and factories, educational sessions, nightly dinners, and an auction that raises money for several charitable organizations.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
