In my never ending quest to photograph portraits of all of the Icons of Cigars, I asked Sam Leccia of Cain/Nub Cigars for five or 10 minutes in between rolling cigars at the Cain Event at my favorite shop, Cigar Shop and More in Addison, Texas.

The great videos were shot by another local photographer, Jay “Cigarbuff” Bitzer, and I appreciate his help.

The first video is me photographing Sam with the help of my trusty sidekicks Ron and A.J.

And here is a video of Leccia rolling various cigars throughout the night. It was amazing watching him roll, it was obvious he enjoys it, and it was great to see another artist at work.

Everyone involved had a great time, and I am working on the final portraits, which will be online next week!

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
