Smoking in the more than 200 city parks in Portland, Ore. could become a thing of the past. The city’s parks board is moving forward with a committee to explore potential pieces of legislation, although an official for Commissioner Amanda Fritz indicated that “nothing is imminent.”

Currently smoking is banned within 10 feet of buildings and25 feet away from playgrounds, but a new law would ban smoking throughout all park facilities, which could include the Portland International Raceway and golf courses.

Earlier this year, Forest Grove, a Portland suburb, voted in favor of a park smoking ban. In addition, a new ban regarding the state’s park will go into effect next year.
