Curivari’s general booth layout has been the same for as long as I can remember covering the company. It’s simple while avoiding the spartan nature of some other exhibitors. However, the simplicity of the two walls and some displays are effective, as the branding is large and recognizable, with the cigars proudly displayed in an easy-to-view manner.

Curivari is one of the more interesting case studies of exhibitors at the PCA Convention and Trade Show. The booth is never swamped with retailers like some of the larger companies. However, the steady stream of customers dropping by to talk to owner Andreas Throuvalas indicates that the brand still draws plenty of interest.

That said, it makes it difficult to grab him for a conversation to get information on the new releases. Once he got a break, though, we were able to chat about the upcoming Buenaventura Maduro.

Buenaventura Maduro

Though Throuvalas is a soft-spoken individual, there is no mistaking his passion for the cigars he creates, with the latest being the Buenaventura Maduro. It took 11 years after the release of the Buenaventura line to get a maduro version, but Throuvalas was very excited about how the Mexican San Andrés he used shined with the blend.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
